Zurich, Switzerland

Zurich, the biggest city of Switzerland and the capital of the canton of Zurich, is situated at the northern tip of Lake Zurich. It is in Switzerland’s central plain, its altitude rising southwards towards the Alps. Zurich, which is the commercial and cultural centre of Switzerland, is also the center of international banking. This is one of the wealthiest cities in Europe.

Numerous lakeside promenades and exclusive houses can be seen on either side of the lake. Most famous view of Zurich unarguably is the Fraumünster and Grossmünster churches looking at each other across the River Limmat. The old part of the town is along this river. Lidenhof, where a Roman custom post once existed is a strategic place to get a good view of this fascinating area.

Zurich today hosts all the major Swiss banks and is a financial hub. It also boasts of brilliant universities and extensive research work. Culturally as well Zurich houses numerous museums, art galleries, orchestras and the Schauspielhaus theatre. Sometime Zurich is called ‘Downtown Switzerland.’
